Plarium’s Smash Hit MMO Vikings: War of Clans Review
If you are a fan of MMO gaming, you have probably already heard of Plarium, who are one of the leading developers in the mobile and browser based MMO sector. Plarium have plenty of popular titles under their belts in the MMO strategy genre, including Stormfall: Age of War, Total Domination, Sparta; War of Empires, Throne: Kingdom At War, and Pirates: Tides of Fortune. They also made the popular mobile game Terminator Genisys: Future War, which is based on the Terminator movie franchise.
The way Plarium tend to work is in taking a popular theme for a war based game, and doing it very well. This is why you’ll find medieval fantasy, pirates, modern warfare, and Vikings as themes for their games. Rather than reinventing the wheel with new settings to get your head around, you know pretty much what kind of thing to expect when you drop in to a war based strategy game themed around Nords or pirates, and Plarium give you a good experience and enjoyable gameplay mechanics that get the most out of these familiar settings.
Vikings: War of Clans
Vikings: War of Clans is no exception to this model, and gives you all of the concepts you would expect in a game centered around Viking history and legend. You will find references to Viking gods like Odin, and ideas like Valhalla incorporated into the game’s world, and of course, being about Vikings, you get plenty of action and violence.
You play as a Jarl, a kind of Viking leader, who can either form their own clan or join a clan created by another player. You then do all the typical things you would expect in a strategy game, managing resources, developing your clan, and of course, fighting others. As an MMO, you’re playing with other real people, whether as allies or rivals, and there is naturally a certain amount of strategy to how you decide to work with the people you meet in the game.
How Good Is Vikings: War of Clans?
Vikings: War of Clans is very well executed. The graphics and sound are good, adding some depth to the gaming experience without being distracting. The tutorials are also very good, getting you started with the main concepts without making the early parts of the game too slow – even if you have played other similarly designed Plarium games and basically know what you are doing, you probably won’t feel like this game holds you back from getting into the nitty gritty of playing with your clan to explain too much.
Menu systems are well designed and easy to navigate, and the interface is of a very high quality. How easy the management menus work can really make or break a strategy game; and this is something Plarium always do very well.
Do We Recommend Vikings. War of Clans?
If you are looking for something incredibly innovative and full of new concepts, then Vikings is probably not for you, but aside from that, this is a brilliant game. Plarium are very experienced in putting together coherent and well balanced strategy MMOs, and if you like the Viking theme, then you’ll get a lot of mileage out of this game.
Vikings: War of Clans is available for both iOS and Android, and there is also a browser based version. Unlike some other franchises like Stormfall, Plarium haven’t made the game different on the mobile platforms to in the browser, so you’ll get the same experience whichever you prefer to play on. All in all, it is a very good quality MMO that is easy to get into, and well worth a look if you enjoy the genre.
